A wall putty may be either powder based (viz. Cement Putty, Mineral Putty or Coarse Putty) or acrylic based, ready to use putty. The purpose of a putty is to provide a protective base and creating the surface ready for priming and painting. It may be used to fill pores in walls and ceilings.

A putty is generally used with a trowel.
